Next to brushing, flossing is the most important procedure that should be done regularly to ensure good oral health. Both brushing and flossing will help remove bacteria residing inside our mouth and between our teeth. The bacteria will cause cavities, bad breath and even gum inflammation. Brushing helps remove plaque around the teeth while flossing helps reduce the probability of getting tartar and also ensures healthy gum. If you do not floss, plaque between teeth becomes tartar which can only be removed by dentists. So, we should floss at least once a day, and for about two or three minutes each time. For those who has never flossed or hasn't flossed for sometimes, when you floss, you will experience a red tinge on the string. This is normal and will no longer occur as you floss regularly. Of note though, flossing does not guarantee no cavities to teeth, it just helps reduce bacteria hence the probability of getting cavities. Don't forget to see a dentist to have your teeth cleaned twice a year, or at least once a year!
